Painter and Decorator in Bletchley
RH Painting Services has been decorating homes across Bletchley and its surrounding neighbourhoods for over two decades. Based just a few miles away in Two Mile Ash, we know the area well — from the Victorian terraces of Old Bletchley to the 1960s London overspill estates around Water Eaton and the newer developments off Buckingham Road. Whether you need a full exterior repaint, an interior refresh, or your kitchen cabinets hand-painted to save the cost of a replacement, we bring City & Guilds trained craftsmanship to every job.
The Homes of Bletchley
Bletchley is home to a diverse mix of properties, each with its own character and decorating needs. Here is what we see when we work across the area.
Victorian & Edwardian Properties
Old Bletchley & Fenny Stratford
The oldest housing sits around St Mary's Church and along Buckingham Road in Old Bletchley, and in the streets around Aylesbury Street in Fenny Stratford. These are typically solid brick terraces and semis with high ceilings, original plaster cornicing, and timber sash windows.
What we commonly find:
Layers of old lead-based paint on woodwork that needs careful preparation before recoating. Lime plaster walls that require breathable paint systems rather than modern vinyl emulsions. Sash windows with peeling exterior paint from years of weather exposure.
1950s-60s Council & Overspill Housing
West Bletchley & Water Eaton
The post-war expansion brought a wave of semi-detached and terraced council housing to West Bletchley. In the early 1960s the Lakes Estate was built as a London overspill development. These properties are typically pebble-dashed or rendered, with concrete lintels and artex ceilings internally.
What we commonly find:
Blown or cracked render on exterior walls — water gets behind the surface and causes it to bubble away from the blockwork. This needs cutting back, repairing, and repainting with a flexible masonry paint. Artex ceilings are often covered or skimmed before repainting.
1970s-80s Estates
Granby, Denbigh & Mount Farm
As Milton Keynes grew around Bletchley, newer estates were built to the north and east. These tend to be brick-built detached and semi-detached houses with timber fascias, soffits, and barge boards.
What we commonly find:
Timber fascias and soffits that haven't been painted in years — the wood starts to rot from the ends where water sits. If caught early, we can sand back, apply wood hardener, fill, and repaint. Left too long and they'll need replacing.
2000s-Present
Newton Leys & Infill Developments
The newest housing in the Bletchley area includes the large Newton Leys development to the south and various infill sites. Modern brick and render builds with uPVC windows and composite doors.
What we commonly find:
Interior finishes on new-builds are often done with a single thin coat of trade matt by the developer. Within a couple of years you'll see scuffs, marks, and uneven coverage. A proper two-coat system with a durable matt makes a huge difference.
Bletchley Repaint Guide
Every home is different, but here are the general guidelines we give our Bletchley customers:
Exterior masonry (rendered or painted brick)
Every 5-7 years
Depends on which direction the wall faces. South and west-facing walls weather faster. If you see chalking — a powdery residue when you rub the surface — it's time.
Exterior woodwork (fascias, soffits, window frames)
Every 3-5 years
For painted timber. Longer if you switch to a microporous system that lets moisture escape rather than trapping it under the paint film.
Interior high-traffic areas (hallways, stairs, kitchens)
Every 3-5 years
Or sooner if you've got young kids or pets. A good quality washable matt like Dulux Diamond makes a big difference to longevity.
Interior bedrooms and living rooms
Every 5-7 years
More often if you fancy a colour change.
Hand-painted kitchens
Every 8-10 years
A properly prepared and painted kitchen with specialist primers and hardwearing topcoats should last this long with normal use.
