Painter and Decorator in Kingston

Kingston and Broughton are among the newest large-scale developments in Milton Keynes. As part of the Eastern Expansion Area, these modern estates feature volume housebuilder stock from the mid-2000s to 2020s. While exteriors are relatively new, the interior finishes from developers are where RH Painting Services makes the biggest difference — upgrading thin, rushed finishes to proper two-coat systems.

The Homes of Kingston

Kingston is home to a diverse mix of properties, each with its own character and decorating needs. Here is what we see when we work across the area.

2000s-2010s Modern Estates

Kingston & Broughton

Part of the Eastern Expansion Area of Milton Keynes. Volume housebuilder stock — brick with rendered accents, modern layouts, smaller plots, and open-plan interiors. Three and four-bed family homes predominate.

What we commonly find:

Developer finishes are the main issue — single coat of cheap trade matt, poorly cut-in, rushed job. Walls mark easily, especially in hallways and above radiators. Some homeowners call us in to fix snag list painting issues. Feature walls and accent colours are popular as new homeowners personalise their space.

Broughton Gate

2010s-2020s

Even newer development extending east, with contemporary housing styles including some three-storey townhouses.

What we commonly find:

Some early-phase Kingston properties from 2005-2010 are now approaching their first exterior refresh, while newer Broughton Gate homes mainly need interior personalisation.

Kingston Repaint Guide

Every home is different, but here are the general guidelines we give our Kingston customers:

Exterior masonry (rendered or painted brick)

Every 5-7 years

Depends on which direction the wall faces. South and west-facing walls weather faster. If you see chalking — a powdery residue when you rub the surface — it's time.

Exterior woodwork (fascias, soffits, window frames)

Every 3-5 years

For painted timber. Longer if you switch to a microporous system that lets moisture escape rather than trapping it under the paint film.

Interior high-traffic areas (hallways, stairs, kitchens)

Every 3-5 years

Or sooner if you've got young kids or pets. A good quality washable matt like Dulux Diamond makes a big difference to longevity.

Interior bedrooms and living rooms

Every 5-7 years

More often if you fancy a colour change.

Hand-painted kitchens

Every 8-10 years

A properly prepared and painted kitchen with specialist primers and hardwearing topcoats should last this long with normal use.
